Beating the “Avatar” blues

So how do we overcome the “Avatar” blues?

Assuming you don’t need professional help, there are a few simple things you can do.

#1 – Help someone else. Right now, there is tremendous devastation in Haiti. What can you do to help alleviate some of the suffering there? When Christ said it is better to give than to receive, I suspect He was talking about the psychic payback from doing for others – particularly those who can’t repay you.

#2 – Dream. We tend to like what we’re good at, and we’re usually good at what we like. I’ll bet, if you pursued your passion, you’d find your life a lot less gray. Trust yourself.

#3 – Get better. If we’re going to live the adventure we know we’re supposed to, we’ll have to get better. Just like Jake had to submit to Neytiri to learn Na’vi ways, we need to submit to others who can help us learn and grow and achieve the dreams in our hearts. Read. Study. Get a mentor. Hire a coach.

#4 – Celebrate. As you succeed, celebrate your successes. We’re really good at pointing out our faults. When it comes to pointing out our successes? Not so much. Remembering our success(es) helps us through the tough times. So, you’ll probably want to write them down, too.

#5 – Start today. “Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.” (William Hutchinson Murray (1913-1996), from his 1951 book entitled The Scottish Himalayan Expedition.)
