Got the “Avatar” blues? (part 2)

So what if you’re adventure doesn’t match up to Avatar’s? Believe it or not, that’s normal.

Most of us have a deep desire for adventure. For men, it’s to live an adventure; for women – to be part of an adventure. Adventure means uncertainty, discovery, challenge.

Society works to suppress all of these. (How many societies would fall if the populations they governed were comprised of daring, fearless, individuals who challenged what they didn’t agree with and questioned what they didn’t understand?)

As much as society works to force us into a mold, that deep longing, that deep hunger for adventure remains. We all know, deep inside, we are meant for so much more.

We long to be Jake or Neytiri, riding as Toruk Makto, leading our clan into a glorious battle, against overwhelming odds.  Our fear is that we’re not worthy.  We fear we’re the one, third row from the back, fourth one in on the left without an ikran to call our own, and when push comes to shove, we’ll be weighed in the balance and found wanting.

How do we overcome? We’ll talk next about that.
